Bay County Courthouse Addition

Design of a new addition located east of and attached to the existing courthouse facility, via an enclosed and environmentally controlled walkway. Included is a 1-story parking level, 2-stories of courtrooms, judge’s suites, public assembly areas and public restrooms. Finished space will consist of approx. 40,000 total SF (approx. 20,000 SF per level) and a walkway connecting the existing facility to the new addition. This design also includes site work, including utility services, drainage, stormwater treatment, access roads, waterfront walkway/park, and additional surface parking. Although we were not required to adhere to the Secretary of the interior’s standards for preservation work because this is a new addition, all of the exterior elements were designed to mirror the original adjacent courthouse. (The addition is connected to the original courthouse.) A brick from the original courthouse was taken to a brick company and color matched to ensure cohesion of the new addition with the existing courthouse. The corner Flemish bond brick pattern from the original courthouse was used on the new courthouse. The roofing was color matched to the original courthouse.
