November 15, 2019On December 19th, 2016 VBA Design of Panama City, Florida in partnership with ZHA, American Institute of Architects of Northwest Florida and the Society of American Military Engineers held its 2nd annual Gingerbread house award ceremony at Breakfast Point Academy in Panama City Beach. Awards were given to the following categories:
Best roof, best use of peppermints, best theme, best green/sustainable design, most humorous, best landscape, best use of icing, most colorful, best traditional gingerbread house, best contemporary house, honorable mentions and a grand overall winner.
The program began as an effort to help students engage in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in a fun and exciting way. In addition, it allows 5 th grade students to learn about architecture, design, building codes, construction permitting, zoning and more.
“Our hope is to provide an understanding to students of the many diverse career choices available to them, at an early age. We believe the Gingerbread House contest provides this plus, so much more, with plans already underway for next year” stated Victoria Williams, VBA Design president.
“All entries were exceptional and deserving of an award, stated Tiffany Catricone, VBA Design Architect. She went on to state “this year’s overall winner placed a great deal of detail into her creation, including vibrant colors, scaled appropriately and did an amazing project.”
